how to choose your table top

Category: Table top

There are many types of material and brands of tabletop can be used for kitchen cabinet, vanity cabinet or feature wall background.

The most common material and brands in the market will be quartz, Kompacplus, sintered slab, solid surface and natural stone.

Quartz is a man-made stone by a combination of 80-90% quartz and 10-20% resins and pigments. The appearance usually in a polished finish - consistent and uniform colour and pattering.

Scratch Resistant: Highly

Stain Resistant: Above average

Chip Resistant: Above average

Non-porous (will not absorb moisture): Yes

Bacteria resistance: Highly

Periodic sealing: Not required

Brands: Iquartz, Artstonez, Melmer, Lian Hin, Silestone, and Caesarstone.

Kompacplus material is a pioneering material made from layers of kraft paper and resin using rigorous engineering techniques. The material is only 6mm thick. Although it is only 6mm thick the panels are highly irrepressible against daily wear and tear. Aside from it being resilient towards wear and tear, it is also water- and steam-resistant, and is non-porous. It makes it an extremely durable and hygienic surface to have in your home.

Sintered slab is a man-made stone composite of clays, feldspars, kaolin and quartz that are blended, compacted and fired above 1200 degree celsius. These give the final material high chemical-, heat-, stain-, and UV resistance. The appearance usually is a matt, honed, satin or glossy finish with consistent and uniform colour and patterning.

Brands: Artstonez, Vulcan (Italy).

Solid surface material is extremely versatile as it is made from polyester resin. It can mimic the appearance of granite, marble, stone, and other naturally occurring materials, and can be joined nearly invisible by a trained craftsman.

Heat Resistant: Low

Stain Resistant: Average

Chip Resistant: Highly

Non-porous (will not absorb moisture): Yes

Bacteria resistance: Low

Periodic sealing: Not required

Marble and granite are commonly used in natural stone. This material has an organic natural finish look but not easy to maintain compare with man-made material.

Granite is a 100% naturally formed igneous rock formed from magma and quarries within the earth with a coarse texture. The appearance similar to quartz in polished finish, but unique in colour and patterning.

Marble is a 100% natural stone, metamorphic rock formed by the metamorphism of limestone. The appearance is unique in colour and patterning.
